This is a tutorial to make recycled footed pants. You can use wool or fleece for a diaper cover, or any other material for pants. I have used a sweatshirt for the tutorial.

**Skip to post 2 for footies only directions**

1. Cut out the arms of a sweater or sweatshirt. Make sure that it’s big enough for the size footies that you need.

Cut out 2 toe pieces and 2 heel pieces. If you would like to use a knit print to match cut out 2 for the toes with the stretch going side to side.

Here is a template to use for the toes and heel pieces, just make sure to make them larger for larger baby and kids. You can also trace around your child’s foot leaving room for the seams.

3. Measure and mark the waist and the rise. Cut.

4. Lay on top of the other sleeve and cut.

Here are the two pants pieces.

5. Turn one inside out.

6. Place the sleeve that is right side up inside the sleeve that is inside out so that the right sides are facing each other.

7. Pin the pieces together

8. Sew or serge the two seams together.

10. Cut out a two inch crescent shape out of each of the leg openings in the front.

**If you are not using a sleeve, make sure that your leg openings are not too large for the heel piece. If they are, you will need so take them in first.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/025.jpg
11. If you are using knit pieces, place them on top of the toe pieces from the sweater.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/026.jpg
12. Pin the toe piece to the leg opening at the crescent with right sides together.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/027.jpg
13. Sew the toe piece to the leg opening. It helps to stretch the leg piece to make sure that it’s getting sewn to the toe piece.

14. Turn inside out.

15. Pin the heel piece to the legs with right sides together.

16. Sew heel piece to toe/leg opening.

Elastic Waist
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/036.jpg
17. Leave the pants inside out and fold down the waist to desired width. Pin.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/037.jpg

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/038.jpg
18. Sew around the waist leaving a small opening for the elastic.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/039.jpg
19. Cut the elastic. I lay it out over the waist and cut 1 ½ of the width of the waist.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/040.jpg
20. Attach a safety pin to the elastic to guide it through the casing.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/041.jpg
21. guide the elastic back around to the opening.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/042.jpg
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/043.jpg
22. Sew elastic together.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/044.jpg
23. Adjust elastic in the casing and sew shut.

http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t204/lharrison1213/other/045.jpg
24. Turn everything right side out and you have footies!! Yay!
