Ok so this is Sew Along #1 for me... so go easy. I hope it is easy to understand, but just in case I didn't have the words right, you get a whole ton of pictures to make up for it. :lol

Here is the first one. You need a regular sized sheet of felt (8X11 I think) and two cuts of quilters cotton or another thin fabric of the same size, along with two strips of the interior fabric cut at 12 inches by 2 inches (for the bais ties).

First you iron and starch both the interior peices and the bias. Fold the pocket peice down about 3/4 of the way and starch and iron.

Fold bias in half, iron, then fold the halves in on themselves making the bias.

Then you pin the folded peice to the other peice of the interior (laying the folded over part to the inside) with the raw edge at the bottom and the folded edge in the middle of the sheet. (Clear as mud?? :LOL2 ) pic:

You sew the two peices together, starting just under where the pocket lies and backstitching up above the pocket and then back down. This makes the first stitch actually on the pocket, not at the stress point.

Once you done with both sides of that, measure and mark the center of the two seams you have already made.

Mark and sew rows to both sides of the center mark, in the middle of the center seam and the side seams. Then do the same by marking and sewing seams in the middle of each of the seams already finished.

Then do the same for the center of the other marks until you have 8 pockets.

Sew bias up, turning the edges in and stitching up the open side.

Once all seams are done, lay the felt peice flat and lay the bias about 1/2 way up along both sides so that when you turn the roll the handles will be on either side.

Lay the pocket peice on top pocket side toward the felt and pin in place.

Sew up the sides and top and bottom leaving a space on the bottom for turning. Try to go right along the outside seams so that the center mark is in the center of the roll when you turn it. If your kids are anything like mine, double back a few times over the bias handle ties... it keeps them in place better and the whole thing lasts longer. ;)

Turn the roll right side out and pin and sew across the bottom.

Add pencils and Mad Lib or other similar sized book!

These pockets are big enough for Stockmar Pencils and chubby crayons (although you will have to make the chubby crayon holders shorter) with out bunching the fabric. It holds 8 pencils (could hold 10 without bunching but not more)

I hope this was clear... I am finding it hard to not show every tiny step that I am talking about. Hopefully you get the general idea though.

Thanks for all the comments mamas! I am glad it was easy to use.

This one was for a trade. But I have two orders in already and I may make more for a few friends kids. They are really pretty cool and I found a place that sells Mad Libs 2 for 1 so it is totally worth it to get the kids something to put in it too. :D I love finding gifts that are this easy yet usable. :happydance

:doh I meant orders from my kids. I made it sound like a buisness deal... lol
